BUSINESS SEMINAR

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

WOW my life has changed. I have never had such an incredible day of information and inspiration that has made me really think about how the world of fashion is moving forward. What a thrill to have experienced the 2010 LMFF Business Seminar. People like Sarah Curran (from mywardrobe.com) and Sojin Lee (from fashionair.com) have changed the way we experience fashion revolutionising fashion retail and media online. Paul Bennett is an agent provocateur and the world needs more people like him who turn our business worlds upside down. I was equally inspired by the charismatic Christian Blankaert who has challenged my perception of luxury. Finally what a delight to hear from the dynamic duo of fashion Malcolm Carfrae and Francisco Costa from Calvin Klein inspiring the audience with their humble brilliance.

Herald Sun Marketing Breakfast

Friday, March 19th, 2010

The morning started with a bento box full of exciting food sensations, salmon on pumpernickel bread, poached fruits and a mixed berry muesli to name a few.  Network Ten’s Charlie Pickering got the crowd warmed up before introducing Paul Bennet whose presentation on Thoughtless Communications got us all thinking outside the rectangle (thanks Herald Sun!) What a wealth of insight into marketing communications giving us all a fresh approach on how to invigorate our brand.

L’Oréal Paris Runway 4

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

This runway felt like a true birthday celebration as In Style turned 10 at LMFF.  Opening the runway was acclaimed producer DJ’s Miriam and Olivia Nervo – the LMFF 2010 Ambassadors. Playing their new music and also some of their favourite tunes from the past decade they warmed up the crowd and got the birthday celebration started.

This theme continued with another stunning blonde, Viva L’amour Djing through the designer sections including some of the favourite music from over the past 10 years from designers such as Gorman, Karen Walker and Mimco.  The finale ended with balloons, colourful lighting and a lot of smiles from the models. Happy birthday In Style!

International guest and board brunch

Monday, March 15th, 2010

It is with much anticipation that I entered the beautiful club lounge of the Sofitel Melbourne On Collins on Sunday where an exquisite brunch was laid out and the views of Melbourne were enhanced by the birds eye view. What a thrill to meet global luminaries of fashion in one room as the VIP guests of the Festival got together for an intimate meet and greet. The brunch presented a wonderful opportunity for everyone to meet the LMFF Board of Directors, executive team and the AMPR crew who orchestrated so much pre-publicity in the lead up to our international guests visit to Melbourne. Personally I was thrilled to catch up with the debonair Francisco Costa, charismatic Malcolm Carfrae, effervescent Linlee Allen, eccentrically charming Tony Glenville, talented Sarah Curran, provocative Paul Bennett and envy inducing twins Miriam and Olivia Nervo, LMFF’s Ambassadors for 2010.

Getting ready for L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival…first and most importantly, a Maison Martin Margiela sweater wash-athon, then writing speeches, downloading images, watching “The Eyes of Laura Mars” to get into character. Asked: “What Should I Say to The Australian Business Community?” on Facebook, got loads of great ideas, provocations and inspirations. Ready.

Paul Bennett is the Managing Partner, Europe and Chief Creative Officer, IDEO
London, UK.

Paul is speaking at the LMFF Business Seminar and the Herald Sun Marketing Breakfast. Tickets are still available for the Business Seminar through Ticketmaster.

LMFF 2010 Ambassadors touch base

Monday, March 1st, 2010

We’re SOO excited about coming to home to Australia and home to Melbourne for L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival. We couldn’t think of anything better than being in the sunshine, wearing some new and exciting clothes plus playing our new records!

With Ke$ha going number 1 in the US and ‘When Love Takes Over’ winning a Grammy, we have been incredibly busy. We had an all Australian week this week as we recorded Kylie Minogue on one of our records. She is a true down to earth Aussie and makes me proud to be a Melbournian! She is so humble, sweet and teeny tiny! We actually had a bit of a surreal experience as I (Mim) had a slight ‘moment’ as Kylie started singing our song. It think it was because I had been used to hearing ‘that voice’ on the radio all my life, so to actually hear her singing right next to me was surreal. I loved it!!

More news is that Cheryl Cole also recorded one of our songs! She is fast becoming a big pop star in the UK so we’re excited about that too!

We can’t wait to get home!!

See you all soon.

TONY GLENVILLE PREPARES FOR LMFF

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Sunday night in Brighton. Brain ticking over with thoughts about both my presentation for LMFF and the event as a whole! Ten years since my last visit to Melbourne and very excited. Like fashion everywhere there will be the establishment I know and recognise and the new………….well at least I imagine this will be so?!

As any true fashion person should, I am thinking about my wardrobe and packing. I also want to be involved in everything during the week; I thrive on being busy so; show, event, private view, discussion, whatever it is I hope my hosts wheel me out.

Tony Glenville is based in London and is presenting at the LMFF Designer Forum.
